A Little Joy, a Little Peace and a Whole Lotta Light

Everybody has a love song. Sometimes it's an "our song". A wedding song, a first kiss song, a song that cements the fireworks. Sometimes its a song remembering lost love, missed chances, an if only lament.

My husband and I have an "our song". When we hear it, where ever we are, we dance. It's a connection of our before to our after; it holds the promise for our yet to be. It's special because of the currents, the love eddy under our surfaces.

Our song is special to us, but it's the relationship packaging that makes it so. There are wonderful songs of love and heartache out there that pass by unnoticed for the most part; our personal cosmic event didn't coincide with them. Trick of fate, perhaps.

I have a few songs though, that to me are the greatest love songs ever written. When I hear them, I have to stop and listen to them because I find them so compelling. They reach me in my core, in the place where I feel most real. They make be glad to be whole of mind and able to cherish the gift that loving somebody is.

Love,
I get so lost, sometimes days pass
and this emptiness fills my heart.

When I want to run away I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are.

All my instincts, they return

and the grand facade,
so soon will burn without a noise,
without my pride

I reach out from the inside.

In your eyes

The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light, the heat I see in your eyes.

Love,
I don't like to see so much pain.

So much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away.
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival.
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive.

And all my instincts, they return

and the grand facade,
so soon will burn without a noise,
without my pride

I reach out from the inside

In your eyes
The light the heat
In your eyes
I am complete
In your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
In your eyes
The resolution of all the fruitless searches
In your eyes
I see the light and the heat
In your eyes
Oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light, the heat I see in your eyes.

The promise of the gift of returned love, the end of looking for it, the completion of an individual puzzle. It's beautiful. Peter Gabriel crafted a masterpiece. John Hiatt's song of the finding, appreciating and aging with the love of your life is wonderful as well.

Well I never went to college, babe
I did not have the luck
Rolled out of Indiana in the back of a pickup truck
With no education higher
Than the street of my hometown
I went lookin' for a fire
Just to burn it all down

You've got a real fine love
You've got a real fine love
One I am unworthy of
You've got a real fine love, baby

I thought I had a line on something

Maybe no one else could say
And they couldn't find it in their hearts
To just get out of my way
Then out of nowhere, and from nothing
You came into my life
I'd seen an angel or two before
But I'd never asked one to be my wife

Well you can sprinkle all your teardrops

Across the evening sky
But you cannot hide the twinkle
Of starlight in your eye
Well I left my map way back there, baby
I don't know where we are
But I'm gonna pull my pony up
And hitch my wagon to your star

You've got a real fine love
You've got a real fine love
One I am unworthy of
You've got a real fine love, baby

Well now the babies are all sleeping

And the twilight's givin' in
She looks like you, he looks like her
And we all look like him
Well maybe it's just the little thing
The way I feel tonight
A little joy
A little peace
And a whole lotta light

Love one another, friends.

Happy Valentine's Day.

I am one of the luckiest guys I know. I met the most beautiful woman I have ever known. She is not only the most beautiful on the outside, but one of the warmest inside. She is the only person that can give me that feeling like Mom did when I was a young boy and got hurt, somehow her kiss makes everything better. Like a wild animal, she was free and young and in my own special way, I think I tamed her. And lucky am I for having such ability because if we spent our whole lives together, my life would be perfect. I don't think I can remember which fifty million songs we danced to was our's, but I can guarantee you if she knew that, I wouldn't be typing this right now.

I wish though that everybody was so blessed to have such a companion, because as much as I probably take things for granted, I will never forget the awesome power that my love brings me...

Patcam is killing me with all that sweetness. I hope his wife is hearing this. It's awesome. My love and I have a story that is so intense we've actually had offers to buy the copywrite. I'll save that story for another day. Our wedding song was Please forgive me by David Gray. We hold hands everytime it comes on the radio.
